Al Harrison started the company in the 1930’s traveling Mexico and California establishing farms and procuring melons and vegetables for distribution throughout the U.S and Canada.
Over the next 80 years the company has become known as a leader in the produce industry. Al Harrison has become one of the largest and most respected producers of Watermelon and hardshell squash in the U.S.
From the 1980’s through early in the new millennium Al Harrison Company focused on perfecting the melon and hard squash production and packaging. We have upgraded to state of the art packaging equipment, computer sizing, automated quality sorting, fully certified fields and packing sheds, and establishing a traceability program that can flow down to item level. We have also established our own transportation department running trucks throughout the Southwest to better service our customers.
Al Harrison Company has a vision for the future that incorporates our history as well as a continued desire to be the best supplier to our customers. We will continue to increase volume and diversity of growing regions to provide a yearlong supply of melons while continuing to offer locally grown supplies of seasonal products throughout the summer and fall for the western U.S.. 2010 will mark the first year that Al Harrison Company will offer Organic vegetables, We have also made a major commitment to diversify into greenhouse production of cucumbers, tomatoes bell peppers and established a year round soft squash program.
The addition of these commodities will allow us to provide year round supplies of multiple items at our consolidation facilities in California, Arizona and Texas. Al Harrison Company continues to change and innovate in order to better service our customers.
